Building History
Our Antiques is located in a historic 1890’s building built by a lumber baron. For many years, our shop was home to a fine men’s clothing store, first Kolliners & Rhinelander’s (from the 1890s until about 1905), and then Kolliners (from about 1905 through the 1970s). Unfortunately, the advance of large chain stores made it impossible for smaller stores to compete, and those small clothing stores are now just a fading memory.
As you browse through our store, you will notice that we have maintained many of the fine features of the previous tenants, preserving the original charm and distinctive style of those upscale stores. We still have the beautiful crown molding and original woodwork throughout the shop. The Kolliners store sign is now mounted on an interior wall. And the former dressing rooms now serve as special display rooms…funny how people were much smaller back then! Best of all, we still continue to use the original, very large and very ornate, National Cash Register machine that was delivered to the shop on March of 1913! This machine must definitely have been top-of-the-line back then, and it is a definitely an antique-admirers treat to see in operation today.

The street level of this historical building has always been occupied by retail stores. The second floor held the lumber baron’s offices, and the third floor has always been a conference / meeting area for the Masons. Today the street level houses Our Antiques (us), Jake’s on Main (clothing), and Loanne Stokes Jewelry / Katydids. The second floor is now occupied by an accounting firm and Vital Statistics.
